The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by Phillip ‘Pip’ Hills who, while traveling around Scotland in the 1970s, fell in love with whiskies drawn straight from the cask. After convincing some friends to buy a cask of Glenfarclas he expanded his syndicate and in 2004 the Society was purchased by Glenmorangie PLC.
They have a unique code system where the first number refers to the distillery and the second refers to the cask from which the bottle comes from. They are also the largest range of distilleries of any independent bottler.
This is the second bottle in the series. Distilled in 1991 and aged for 22 years, the Karuizawa 1991 SMWS 132.2 is an exceptional expression from the legendary Karuizawa distillery, bottled exclusively by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS). With only a limited number of bottles produced, this single-cask release captures the refined elegance and depth that Karuizawa whiskies are celebrated for worldwide.
