The third bottle from Glenfiddich in the experimental series is an impressive 21-year-old single malt named “Winter Storm”. This Limited Edition has been aged for 21 years and finished in small batches of ice-wine casks from Canada.
This is Batch 2 of the limited series. Batch 1 was released in 2017 and can be found here.
Mr Brian Kinsman experienced the freezing Canadian January weather to learn how the grapes had to be picked at moonlight at -10°C when they were as hard as pebbles. Working with Peller Estates VP of Winemaking, Craig MacDonald, it was an opportunity to push the boundaries of taste to create unexpected whisky.
Brian then experimented with several French oak ice-wine casks from the Canadian winery, filling them with different Glenfiddich aged malts for up to six months. Only the rarer whiskies, those aged for 21 years, could cope with the extra ice wine intensity.
